Still my favorite film from currently bulletproof director Christopher Nolan, Memento
holds up surprisingly well after a decade of repeated viewings and countless imitators. How mainstream stardom continues to elude the immensely talented Guy Pearce baffles me, especially in light of strong performances in fantastic films like The Count of Monte Cristo
and The Proposition, both just about perfect entries into their respective genres. Now… where was I?
Since release, Memento has stuck quite closely to its original Polaroid within a Polaroid poster. Even in the custom cover world, the powerful and clever design has gone relatively unchallenged. Where’s the fun in that? Facing a dearth of publicity materials, this cover relies on a heavily modified stock photo, recreated tattoos, and a few other bits and pieces to tie it all together. As far as I can remember, this was my most work intensive custom cover yet, and it is certainly one of my favorites. I hope you’ll enjoy it too.
